SURGERY FOR CONGENITAL HEART DISEASES

Our center is a pioneer in the treatment of children and adults with congenital cardiac disease. It is the first and only clinic in Cyprus to provide this type of care. In the first year of operation, more than 50 complex operations on children and adults with congenital heart diseases were performed, many of which were performed for the first time in Cyprus, such as pulmonary valve replacement, ASD closure, VSD closure, PDA closure, tetralogy of Fallot correction, and aortic isthmus stenosis correction.
The vast majority of these patients would have had surgery in another country. Permanent collaboration with specialized pediatric cardiologists from abroad, as well as the Kindeherzen Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Germany, is critical for the successful treatment of these patients.

Surgeries

Indicative list

  • Closure of atrial septal defect (ASD I, ASD II, Sinus venosus Defect, Defect of the coronary sinus)

  • Closure of ventricular Septal Defect

  • Atrioventricular canal correction

  • Correction of Tetralogy of Fallot

  • Correction of aortic isthmus stenosis

  • Correction of stenosis or other abnormalities of the aortic arch

  • Repair or replacement of all heart valves (aortic, mitral, tricuspid, pulmonary)

  • Correction of stenosis in vessels such as pulmonary artery

  • Closure of patent ductus arteriosus even in premature neonates with very low birth weight

  • Implantation of pacemakers at all ages

  • Surgery for coronary Artery Anomaliess

  • Correction of subvalvular stenosis of the right or left ventricle

  • Correction of vascular rings

  • Aortopexy

  • Surgical treatment of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (Glenn, Fontan)

  • Complex reoperations

  • Certain surgeries in newborns
