Dr. Shiakos, a distinguished cardiac surgeon and intensivist hailing from Nicosia, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our team. After completing his military service, he pursued his medical education at the prestigious 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague. His professional journey took root as a surgical resident in Stuttgart in 2012, and over the past decade, he has evolved into a seasoned cardiac surgeon and intensivist, honing his skills through extensive training in Germany.
In addition to his clinical role, Dr. Shiakos serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the European University Cyprus, contributing to the academic landscape of cardiac medicine. His commitment to education ensures a continuous exchange of knowledge and the development of future medical professionals.
As the Head of our HEART ICU at Apollonio Hospital, Dr. Shiakos is at the forefront of ensuring the highest standards of care for our cardiac patients, overseeing the cardiac surgical medical team with precision and expertise.
Apart from his proficiency in the entire spectrum of cardiac surgery, Dr. Shiakos showcases a special interest in preoperative and postoperative echocardiographic examinations. His impressive track record includes over 3000 transthoracic echocardiographic examinations, reflecting his commitment to thorough patient care. Dr. Shiakos is well-versed in transesophageal echocardiography in cardiosurgical patients, further enhancing the precision of diagnostic procedures. Furthermore, he has vast experience in the treatment of complex postoperative cardiosurgical patients with a long track record of successful outcomes. His commitment to safe use of antibiotics as well as modern pharmacological approach to treatment maintains the level of care of our patients to the highest of standards.
With a decade of experience, Dr. Shiakos is a product of rigorous training in Germany, bringing a global perspective to our cardiac care practices. His expertise extends to cardiosurgical intensive care medicine, and he possesses advanced skills in treating patients with temporary assist devices, including ECLS, ECMO, and IABP.
